Chuansha Ancient Town
located in Pudong District, Shanghai, which is known as the root of Pudong culture and history. In ancient times, the salt industry was developed here, and several large saltworks were located in Chuansha in the early Ming Dynasty. At the same time the textile industry is booming. In the Qing Dynasty, there were many shops and business here. Today, the old streets in the ancient town have been remodeled. The old stone roads are imitated, and they are bumpy. On both sides of the old street are a variety of shops, mostly gourmet shops. The architecture of the ancient town continues the architectural style of the Ming and Qing Dynasties. The white walls and tiles, and the ancient archways on the old street show the simplicity of the ancient town.
At first, it was only a town market, and no city wall was built. In the Ming Dynasty, they were repeatedly invaded by Japanese pirates. Due to the high enthusiasm of the local people to build the city, the construction was completed in only three months. A moat was excavated outside the city wall, effectively resisting the invasion of Japanese pirates.
Religious culture is developed here. Temples and churches are safely located in the ancient town. The blend of Chinese and Western cultures is concentrated in the architecture, which is unique but unobtrusive. The people here respect culture and education, and talents come forth in large numbers. Not far from Chuansha Ancient Town, there is also a Jiangnan classical garden, Chuansha Park. The park was built in the 1980s. Its landmark building, the Jiangnan Pearl, Heming Tower, was built in imitation of the Yellow Crane Tower. The Heming Tower has five towers and seven floors. The upper is covered with colored glaze, the lower is a stone and jade platform, and a painted corridor, with eighty columns, angled cornices, and 60 golden bells.
