Mount Jiuhua (“Nine Lotus Flower Peaks”)

one of the four most sacred Buddhist mountains in China with several 99s - 99 peaks, 99 temples, 99-year-old Kim Qiaojue (reincarnation of Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva) and 99-meter Golden Statue of Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva. Located in Qingyang County (青阳县), Chinzhou (池州市), Anhui Province (安徽省), 430km from Shanghai. According to sutra, Korean monk Kim Qiaojue visited Mount Jiuhua during Tang Dynasty in the 8th century AD and stayed here to educate people and cultivate himself for 75 years. Lots of eminent monks had practiced on Mount Jiuhua. Jiuhuashan’s Buddhism boomed during the reign of Emperor Xuanzong in Tang Dynasty. Today there are still over 90 temples well preserved with 9 temples crowned as National Key temples. There are 600 monks and nuns living in these temples. Green mountain scenery and special rocks, pine trees adds more peaceful and mysterious atmosphere on this divine Buddhist land. Jiuhuashan Unesco Global Geopark (139skm, peak elevation of 1344m) is an example of how a large granitic fault-block landforms produce high peaks and oddly-shaped rocks.

There is no temple in Flower Terrace, but it has peaks with different posture everywhere. Recommended sights of Flower Terrace Scenic Area are Tianzhu Peak, Luohan Peak, Ksitigarbha Well, ksitigarbha Boots, Manjusri Cave, etc. To go: bus from Mount Jiuhua Tourist Center or from Jiuhuazhen Town to Huatai cableway station, and than cable car to the top (120 cny round trip).

Tiantai Temple 天台寺 (alt: 1306m)
located in the Tiantai Peak is the highest temple of Mount Jiuhua. It is believed that Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva once accommodated in the temple. This place they believed is the half-way world linking with sky and earth.

Shiwang Peak (alt: 1344m)
located in the south of Tiantai peak, there is a ridge connecting the two peaks. It is the highest peak of Jiuhua Mountain. Shiwangfeng mountain is magnificent and beautiful, with many peaks competing. The peaks in the mountain are stacked, the rocks are jagged, the springs and waterfalls are flowing and the streams are gurgling. On the East and west sides of the peak, there are many dangerous cliffs. In the southwest, there is "poyu peak", which is 1143 meters above sea level, which is very similar to the bowl of monks. In the northwest, there is "Luohan peak" with an altitude of 1280 meters. The "Yan Xiantai" is located in the west of Shiwang peak.

The Incarnation Grand Hall (肉身宝殿)
With about 1300 years' history, is the burying place for Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva. Hence, the Incarnation Hall is also called Ksitigarbha Pagoda. The hall is built on a high terrace with stone pillars, red wall, iron tile, white marble and “The First Mountain in Southeast China” (东南第一山) inscribed on the front door. In the Hall, can view the seven-story wooden Ksitigarbha Pagoda with white marble base. Inside the pagoda, you can worship the Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva with over 100 statues

in Eastern Jin Dynasty (401 AD), the monk Beidu built the temple for cultivation. Rebuilt in Tang Dynasty, when Kim Qiaojue came to Mount Jiuhua and died at 99 years old, Huacheng Temple was regarded as the rite for Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva. The pair of stone lions of the entrance are from Tang Dynasty, walk up the stairs with three huge doors inscribed with couplets to describe as the first temple among all the temples of Mount Jiuhua.

Located at the entrance of Jiuhua Street, first built in Ming Dynasty, is listed as one of the Four Buddhist Temples of Mount Jiuhua. This temple is composed of nine separate buildings - Linggong Palace, Maitreya Palace, the Great Buddha's Hall, Bright Lecture Hall, etc. All the structures are exquisite. Inside the Great Buddha's Hall, travelers can see the 12-meter-high Buddhas - Sakyamuni Buddha, Amitabha Buddha and Bhaisajyaguru Buddha, moreover, you can see Manjusri Buddha, Samantabhadra Bodhisattva, the Eighteen Arhats' sitting statues. In the Depository of Buddhist Sutras, there is the precious “Tripitaka” (Qianlong Version). Walking around the temple, you can view a huge bronze cooking pot which can be used as cook for 1000 monks.

originated during the reign of Emperor Wanli in Ming Dynasty. A monk known as Wuxia traveled Jiuhuashan, he settled down and lived on wild fruits. He spent 20 years finishing the copy of Buddhist sutra, totaling 81 rolls which are kept intact, a National first class relics. In 1623 Monk Wuxia passed away at the age of 110. Later his body was embalmed with gold power and enshrined, hence the name of Baisuigong, literally, One Hundred Monk Palace.

Great Vow Culture Park (Dayuan Wenhua Scenic Area, 大愿文化景区)
Located in Kecun village, the foot of Jiuhua Mountain, outside the core scenic area of Jiuhua Mountain, near the tourist service center, it opens for free. The main attraction is the 99 meter Bodhisattva statue.
